Autumn and Winter 2009
Yes, Autumn is here already and not only will we see nature's colours changing into a rich cascade, but they will be repeated in our clothing colours. Colours of burnt ochre, red, rich amber, cinnamon, terracotta, olive green, warm chocolate brown and mushroom to name but a few. There will be other colours such as eggplant, purple, blackberry, claret, dusky pink, teal, slate blue and gunmetal grey. White and cream will also be there to break things up a little. Check out your individual colour swatch and choose the right hue for you.
Layering is the way to go this season. Sleeveless waistcoats and vests over shirts and dresses. Chunky knit cardigans with and without sleeves in cable designs. This theme will also flow through into knit dresses.
Jackets and coats with belts and belt loops as features or front ties in bold colours. Collars and lapels trimmed with faux fur.
There is also a great trend towards smock tops coming down as far as the hips, in a variety of designs from checks to prints.
The little black dress is also back. It is tailored and very flattering. It can be worn with a shirt underneath for the office, or removed for a night out. Very chic.
Bags, large and small with rouching, pleats, fringes and tassles.
Accessories have scaled down from the bold and oversized of the past and are now more wispy. Necklaces are beads spaced onto fine cord. Hoop earrings, or long and dangling. Bracelets made of beads or bangle style.
Big hair is back! Lots of volume and even some teasing for additional body. If you have long hair, you may want to try plaiting or braiding for a different look.
Check your colour swatch before buying anything new this season. Watch out for styles to flatter your body shape by understanding your style guide.
If you haven't had your body analysis done yet, then now is the time to make an appointment. You will learn about your body shape and which styles will enhance your figure, as well as which styles to avoid. Your face shape plays an important part in choosing, not only your hairstyles and spectacles, but necklines and jewellery. Of course your bone scale also determines patterns and accessories which are right for you.
